Yusuf's Story

Hey there! I’m Yusuf Al Arief, but you can call me Yusuf. Let me take you on a ride through my academic journey, from the halls of Lambung Mangkurat University to the prestigious campus of Lancaster University.

Back in 2005, I stepped into the English Language Education Study program at Lambung Mangkurat University. It was like stepping into a world of endless possibilities. My love for English had taken root during my high school days, especially when I joined the debate team. Continuing my journey with English at EngDept felt like the most natural thing to do.
Those four years were a whirlwind of learning and growth. I soaked up every opportunity that came my way, and it paid off when I graduated in 2009. But I wasn’t done yet. The thirst for knowledge pushed me further, and in 2015, I earned my master’s degree in Linguistics from Universitas Diponegoro. And guess what? I snagged the BPPDN scholarship along the way, adding another feather to my cap. Fast forward to today, and here I am, a PhD student at Lancaster University’s Linguistics and English Language Department, ranked third in the world for Linguistics! It’s like a dream come true. And what’s the other best part of this journey? I am awarded the LPDP scholarship that paved my way to Lancaster.

My journey has taught me one thing above all else: believe in yourself and work hard. Opportunities are everywhere; you just need to grab them with both hands. If you’re passionate about English like I am, there’s no better place to be than Lambung Mangkurat University’s English Language Education Study program. So, wherever you are in your journey, remember this: believe in yourself, work hard, and never stop chasing your dreams. Who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll find yourself achieving your biggest dream.
