My Journey: From English Education Graduate to Professional Barista in Australia

Hello, my name is Muhammad Fithri Noor Eka, a proud graduate of the English Education Study Program, class of 2017. I would like to share my journey—a story of perseverance and success—about how my education paved the way for me to work as a barista in Australia.

It all started when I was watching YouTube videos about working opportunities in Australia. Those videos inspired me deeply because they showed how people from different countries could succeed and build new lives there. From that moment, I began imagining myself living and working abroad.

However, turning this dream into reality was not easy. I realized that mastering English was essential to compete and be accepted for jobs overseas. So, I started saving money little by little to take the IELTS test—the key requirement for obtaining a work visa in Australia.

To raise funds, I took on part-time jobs. Fortunately, I found an opportunity as a barista at Office Coffee Banjarmasin. Working there wasn’t just about making coffee; it also involved communicating effectively with foreign customers and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds—skills that were honed during my studies. Besides being a barista, I also gained valuable experience teaching English by joining LIA (Indonesia-America Institute). Teaching helped improve my language skills and boosted my confidence because every student had different learning challenges that required patience and adaptability.

After thorough preparation—both financially and skill-wise—I finally took the IELTS exam and achieved scores that met Australian immigration standards. Soon after, my big dream came true: securing a job as a professional barista at one of Melbourne’s renowned coffee shops!

This is where everything I learned during college truly paid off:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong command of grammar
  • Interpersonal abilities
  • Confidence speaking English

All these tools made adapting easier while opening many new career opportunities along with social connections.

To all students or anyone chasing their dreams: never hesitate to study hard because knowledge will always be your greatest asset on your path to success!

I am deeply grateful to the English Education Study Program for providing invaluable knowledge and experiences—it truly opened doors for our future!
