Fitria’s Story
My career phase in education continues. Since having children and being a mother, I have been more sensitive to issues concerning child development.
Children’s language development is the most familiar topic to me. I’ve been aware of my child’s communication milestones and language development since he was 0 months old.
However, it turns out that, in this technologically advanced period, there is a sad reality: a rising proportion of children are experiencing speech delay. This is due to both medical and non-medical conditions. He couldn’t even pronounce his own name, and when he asked for a drink, he had to whimper instead of saying anything.
Speech therapy is one solution for children’s speech delays, but many people forget that language experts can be just as helpful. Language education graduates have spent years studying how languages are taught, acceptable methods, and evaluation across all age levels. It turns out that I can use my understanding of morphology, syntax, semantics, education, and their “friends” to the most immediate surroundings, namely children.
Teach students how to create meaningful words, construct words with different affixes, and comprehend sentences at various levels.
This is the substance of knowledge that I have studied in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate education, which is now I am pursuing, but it is just viewed more crucial when I became a mother.
With this background, I founded VERBALISAN; children’s language assistance, providing adequate language stimulation for children with language difficulties.
The method we use is Enhanced Milieu Teaching (EMT)
